Name: Peter Dunstan
Schools: Zhong Hua Elementary and Tai Ping Elementary
Original country: Australia
G’day, I’m Peter Dunstan from Australia’s Sunshine State, Queensland.
My big thing is Social Studies content and language integrated learning (CLIL) which is, conveniently, also a current trend in Taiwanese education. My students learn about two countries per semester, which helps them understand our world and establish Taiwan’s own special place in it. If my teaching resources interest you, some are online at youtube.com/peterdunstan, including geography songs like Samba Carnival which is about Brazil.
I encourage my students to adopt growth mindsets, take risks and enjoy the learning process. I never consider there are skills we cannot attain, only ones that we can’t do yet. To that end, I take risks in my own teaching by trying new methods which utilize creative skills to create rich learning content. Fitting music, art, dance, geography and English together sure keeps it interesting!
I like diverse learning. My first degree is a Bachelor of Arts (Geography and English) from UQ, my second is a Master of Business (International Business) from QUT and my third is a Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) from UQ. Plus, I learn a lot from listening to smart people on YouTube, probably more than I learnt in three degrees. There is no limit to learning!
