Lesson 1 - Song (Part One)
After listening to the song once through the students will be shown a PPT to introduce six things that they can see in Mongolia.
(Mongolian flag, Genghis Khan, horse, grassland, camel, desert). After each item is introduced and explained, give the students a short amount of time to draw it on their worksheet and add the English word. |
Next, the students will start to create the dance for the song. Ask all students to stand up and play the music video. Pause the video after each line and ask the students to show you a dance move to represent the keyword of your choice. If there are several options the students may vote for their favorite move! |
Assessment
At the end of the lesson the teacher can assess the students for their understanding of the keywords with a simple listening activity. The teacher will read out the words one by one and the students must correctly identify the word that they hear by writing the number underneath the picture. "Number 1, horse." "Number 2, desert." If the co-teacher records a movie of the lesson, then the students can also be assessed for participation and effort during the singing/dancing activity. |
Lesson 2 - Song (Part Two)
The second lesson of the unit is taught in exactly the same way as the first lesson, the only difference being the addition of the new vocabulary. (archery, wrestling, horse racing, yurt, eagle and stars).
The lesson begins by reviewing the vocabulary and dance moves from lesson one. The teacher may use the PPT / worksheet to introduce six more things you can see or do in Mongolia. As lesson one, students should draw and write the name of each item on their worksheet as it appears on the PPT. |
Lesson 3: Geography (Part 1)
For the first phase of the lesson the teacher may introduce the key vocabulary with pictures from the PPT and simple questions to elicit the information.
"What is the capital city of Taiwan?" "The capital city of Taiwan is Taipei. "What is the capital city of Mongolia?" The capital city of Mongolia is Ulan Bataar. There are six keywords in total for this lesson: capital city, grassland, mountain, forest, lake and desert. |
