Alternative Curriculum

Picture
Elementary and junior high schools offer alternative curricula which include cross-curricular and integrative courses with theme-, project-, and issue based inquiry, club activities and professional courses, and special needs domain courses.
These school developed required courses should be planned by the school curriculum development committee according to the vision and special characteristics of the school.
This means that every school in Taiwan should have their own individual curriculum that represents their particular school. However, it is quite possible that your school will not have a fully developed curriculum and will ask for your help or invite you to become part of the curriculum development committee.

Curriculum Guidelines - National Academy for Educational Research

The National Academy for Educational Research create and publish the curriculum guidelines for all the MOE mandated courses. However, these documents are currently only available in Chinese which makes curriculum design extremely challenging for teachers in our program.

We have therefore started to translate some of the key documents into English and put the key information into easily readable documents. These documents can be accessed by clicking the icons below.

CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning)

Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is an approach where students learn a subject and a second language at the same time. A science course, for example, can be taught to students in English and they will not only learn about science, but they will also gain relevant vocabulary and language skills.
In order to design high quality CLIL lessons teachers are advised to refer to the curriculum guidelines from both the subject content being taught and the English curriculum guidelines.
