Which does...Activity

This activity has the students practicing food vocabulary and the interrogative "which." They will also be practicing the third person singular form of the verb "have." All of the foods are separated into categories and those categories are represented by a letter. A=side dishes B=main dishes  C=desserts  D=drinks. They will be using the question, "Which does Tina have, _______, ___________, or __________?" At the end, they also get to do a little math by asking, "How much is Tina's food?"
This activity can be adapted for many categories of vocabulary or theme. The word "have" can also be replaced with "want," "need," etc.

Which does...Information Gap

For this activity, the students will work in pairs. One student will have a card with food items on the top separated into categories and a table with no food. The other student will have a card with food on the table and a menu with the prices on the bottom. The student with the card with an empty table will use the target question to find out what each person has for a side dish, main dish, dessert, and drink. The person with the card with food on the table will listen and answer the question appropriately. Eg. "Which does Amy have, banana pie, cake, or a cookie?" ...."She has banana pie."  When the answer is given the student will write the answer next to the corresponding letter. After all the food is finished they will then ask the total of each person's meal and write it down. When this set of cards is finished, the teacher will check the answers and then given the students a new set with new people and different food. They will switch roles of who is asking and who is answering.

Assessing Understanding

While the students are working on the activity, the teacher should walk around listening to them and assisting where needed. One thing to watch out for is the students changing "have" to "has" when they answer they question.
After the activity each student will get a follow up worksheet. This worksheet is assessing their understanding of the vocabulary and the usage of the third person singular for of the verb "have."
