Elementary School
Using Multiple Intelligences for a Global View
Elementary school (Grades 1-6)
Elementary schools in Taichung provide education to a broad range of students. Whether the teacher is working at a small country school with only a handful of students per class, or a large metropolitan school our Foreign English teachers (FETs) are well prepared to meet the needs of the students. Prior to hiring a foreign teacher the elementary school should decide which curriculum track the FET should follow. * Click the links below for info/resources |
Track 1 - School Developed Curriculum
Some elementary schools have already developed their own school based curriculum in line with the vision set out by the Ministry of Education. This vision states that schools should utilize their own resources and take into consideration the specific social and cultural resources from the community for addressing students’ characteristics and learning needs. The FET should therefore use the scheme of work and resources provided by the school, and work closely with the local teachers to develop the students' Core Competencies and English ability.
Our teachers are currently developing a fully integrated elementary curriculum which can be taught as an extra 'flex' course alongside the traditional English course. This 'International Education' curriculum moves away from traditional textbook based learning, and towards a competency based, holistic education that will meet the requirements set by the Ministry of Education.
Schools that choose the textbook extension track should provide the FET with the current textbook that is being used in the regular English course. The FET will then use the vocabulary and sentence patterns in the textbook to design and teach communicative activities related to that content. Over the years we have developed numerous resources that can be adapted and used when teaching the textbook extension track.
